“We want our office to be a magnet, not a mandate – a place where people enjoy collaborating and do great work,” said Pierre Peiclier, Managing Director of Sun Life Ireland and Vice President of IT Architecture, Data & Strategy. “We are thrilled to offer our talented employees this state-of-the-art office space that supports wellness as well as productivity. The Waterford office renovations align with Sun Life’s Future of Work philosophy which emphasises flexibility, innovation, inclusion and wellbeing. Sun Life employees can choose where they will be most productive each day – in the office or at home. This flexibility is infused in Sun Life’s culture, maintaining strong employee engagement that has been consistent throughout the pandemic.  When employees do come into the office, they can utilise larger collaboration spaces, the latest technology solutions such as Wi-Fi 6 that offers true mobility, multiple video conferencing facilities that enhance the virtual and office meeting experience.  All of which are set in modern, vibrant and comfortable workspaces.

Sustainability is an integral part of Sun Life’s global strategy, and the Waterford office is on track to become carbon neutral for energy consumption by the end of 2022. New sustainable building features include 276 solar panels, which will produce 15 – 20 percent of Sun Life’s electrical needs, furniture sourced from recycled materials, low energy LED lights throughout and electric vehicle charging stations for employees.

Executive Director of IDA Ireland, Mary Buckley said: “Sun Life is a major and valued employer in Waterford and the South East Region for more than 20 years now and their presence has been of considerable benefit to the regional economy. They have been very imaginative and considered in expanding and refurbishing their office space, with a strong focus on sustainability.  The €6m investment demonstrates Sun Life’s ongoing commitment to its Waterford operations. At the same time, it equips them to access additional talent from other locations in Ireland and affords those skilled people the opportunity to work for a company of the calibre of Sun Life. I wish the company continued success.”

Originally opened in 1998, Sun Life’s Waterford office has been a base for more than 500 employees who support Sun Life’s operations globally.
